Life is such a precious gift that we should be thankful everyday for. Never. ever. forget that. Tonight, one of my fellow students at DePauw took his own life and while I did not know him, seeing how this affected all those around me left me with this sickening feeling in my gut.
Finals are this week, but they now seem insignificant. Me and my friend were studying when we found out and it all seemed pointless after that. My first final is at 8:30 this morning but what the fuck does some letter grade in a class like Euro Civ mean compared to the loss of a life? What does anything mean compared to that? Who cares what clothes you’re wearing, what car you drive, what phone you have, how many gadgets and gizmoes you own, how much weight you’ve gained. It’s almost sick how little mere life is valued compared to all these things. Not to mention all those small worries, stupid fights, drama, etc it all just seems meaningless.
It’s sad that it takes a tragedy like this to remind us that life is a gift that we should be grateful for everyday. Even when things aren’t going your way or you feel like your world is coming to an end.. it’s not & things will get better. Just remember that things could be worse, you, or anyone you know & love could be gone tomorrow. Life is to short to waste, take advantage of it, live every moment, find happiness in everything you do, and fall in love with as many things as possible. Life and love are all that you need and they are all that truly matters in this world.
My heart & thoughts go out to those who are hurting.
We all get it.
It’s that time of year when school is wrapping up, and ALL you even want to think about is that long lost love that goes by the name of SUMMER. I personally, haven’t been able to stop thinking about the promises summer makes! Sunny weather, relaxation, finally road tripping with my friends to South Haven and hitting the beach! I CANNOT WAIT to be driving down the highway, music blaring, wind whipping through my hair… laying out on the sand, soaking up the sun, walking along the shore as waves crash against my feet…admiring a gorgeous sunset off in the distance. AH! That just sounds like perfection!
Unfortunately, I am still stuck in Greencastle trying to get through the rest of this semester…more importantly… trying to get through the rest of my freshman year; which I still can’t believe is coming to an end!! I know for the last two weeks, I should just hit it hard, finish with a bang, kick it and sprint what’s left of the race…. but that is way easier said than done. There is such little time left that it’s hard to find the motivation to even care! I know that many students feel this way, you are just over all if it and it’s especially hard when all your friends who go to different schools are out already! Too bad there isn’t a way I can just be at DePauw (because don’t get me wrong I’m going to miss it a lot) , but not have to worry about classes, grades and homework.
Alas, you just have to suck it up. All you can do is grit your teeth, plaster on a smile & a positive attitude, keep repeating to yourself how many days are left of class, do the last few papers you have to write, STUDY STUDY STUDY for finals, and anxiously await the start to summer break.
